Markets in May is a celebration of local markets held annually and driven by Local Market Guide.
The inaugural Markets in May campaign in 2014 was a first for the industry in Sydney, bringing together markets and helping to promote and raise awareness of their increasing value within the community.
In May 2014, 27 unique events were held across Sydney. The free events were hosted by participating markets offering a variety of fun and engaging activities for all ages and interests, showcasing stallholders as well as informing and entertaining market goers.
The festivities were officially kicked off with a pop-up tasting market in Martin Place. 11 local food producers gave city workers an opportunity to sample their delicious food and learn about their unique products. The buzzing market atmosphere provided the perfect start to the ‘Markets in May’ campaign.
Markets in May is great opportunity to encouarge the community to visit new markets, support local producers and artisans and to remind the community just how important markets are. Not only do they provide access to unique products, they feed the local economy and breathe life into local areas.
